清朝末期の怪事件をベースにした歴史アクション映画
香港、台湾の映画賞を数多く受賞し、2007 年の中国興行収入で1位を記録した歴史アクション大作。清朝末期に実際に起きた馬新胎の暗殺事件がベースとなっており、ジェット・リー、アンディ・ラウ、金城武といったアジア3大スターの競演も話題を呼んでいる。

物語の舞台は19 世紀末の中国。太平天国の乱で味方の兵士を全て失った清の将軍パン（ジェット・リー）は、失意の最中で盗賊アルフ（アンディ・ラウ）、ウーヤン（金城武）と出会う。
