このイベントは、「Flashの学校」ロクナナワークショップが主催するWebクリエイター向けセミナーイベントの第2回として開催された。ゲストに「ゴルメットちゃん」や、日産自動車「キューブ」のブログパーツ「CUBOX」のキャラクタークリエイターとしても知られるタロアウト氏を迎えて開催された。
では、「ゴルメットちゃん」の誕生を通じて、どのようにキャラクターが生まれ、リアルな展開／Webコンテンツ展開へと進んで行ったのかを振り返ろう。
2006年、キャンペーン企画の一環で誕生
イベントはタロアウト氏の線画で構成されたかわいいスライドを見ながらの進行となった。今回のセミナーでとりあげるキャラクター「ゴルメットちゃん」、およびその世界観を生み出した中心人物は下記の6名のチームだったという。
中央がタロアウト氏、右がブランド・広告代理店サイド、左がWeb制作サイド話は2006年末に遡る。とある女性向けポータルサイトで、年末のホリデーシーズンに「ゴルメット ドゥ ディオール（以下、ゴルメット）」のキャンペーンサイト企画が立ち上がり、キャンペーンサイトのデジタルグッズを彩るキャラクターの制作が広告代理店を通じてタロアウト氏にもたらされたのである。
ゴルメット ドゥ ディオールとは
ディオールファインジュエリー部門のアーティスティックディレクター、ヴィクトワール ドゥ カステラーヌ氏によってデザインされたもので、独特のチェーンとプレートで構成される指輪。デザインに込められた意味や意図は次の通り。
- 誕生：赤ちゃんの洗礼式に送られる神聖なブレスレットから、新しい自分をインスピレーション
- ID：プレートのシリアルやロゴ・ゴールド表記・サイズをID表現として刻印
- 表と裏：その日のムードに合わせて使い分けることができる
- ユニセックス：男性でもつけることができる
- 自己表現：裏には自分の好きな言葉を刻むことができる
初期アイデアがそのまま活きた世界観
タロアウト氏は、ゴルメットに込められた想いを念頭にB5用紙に落書きしながら模索する。割に初期のアイデアが「ストン」と落ち着き、バリエーションを考えずに微調整と世界観の仕立てに時間をあてたという。
落書きの様子（※クリックで拡大します）と完成したキャラクターデジタルでありながらラインをゆがませ手描きの雰囲気を残し、簡単なプロフィールや世界観、あえて白場を残したイメージイラストとストーリーボードを使ってプレゼンが行われた。結果は良好でいくつかのディテールが修正され、ブランド側本国で確認をとった結果採用されたのだそう。
ブログアクセサリーやスクリーンセーバーなどのデジタルグッズを掲載したキャンペーンサイトは大きな話題となり、ゴルメットの認知拡大や「ハードな印象→かわいい」といったイメージの変化など、成果を収めた。
